Mostar as a day trip or an overnight stay?
Choose by the time you can give the journey, and leave room for the old town beyond a quick stop at the bridge.
An overnight stay in Mostar gives you more time around the old town before and after day trips arrive. A day trip can still work if you accept a long travel day and keep the sightseeing list short. The right choice depends on your route, not a rule that everyone must stay overnight.
Be realistic about the Dubrovnik journey
Arriva's Dubrovnik–Mostar route information describes a route of about 150 km and around three and a half hours, depending on traffic, with a border crossing. That is an operator estimate, not a guarantee. Check both departures for your actual date. Two journeys of that length already use about seven hours before station transfers and sightseeing. The return timetable, rather than the driving distance, decides whether a day trip makes sense.
The bus station and the Old Bridge are separate places. Include the walk or local transfer, and carry the travel documents required for your nationality and route. If the available buses leave only a narrow sightseeing window, an overnight stay is the more practical option.

Give the old town room
The city's tourism information is a starting point for sights beyond the bridge. Choose a museum or historic building, stop for a meal and take time on both sides of the river. Working places of worship have their own visitor rules.
The old streets and bridge surface can be slippery. Wear shoes with grip and be considerate in narrow areas. In hot weather, build in shade and a proper break instead of trying to walk continuously through the middle of the day.
What an overnight stay changes
You can enjoy an evening meal without watching the return bus and take a morning walk before leaving. It does not guarantee empty streets, lower prices or a quiet hotel, especially during events.
