Dubrovnik rewards an early start and a slower afternoon. Spend time in the old town before its busiest hours, choose one major paid view, and leave room for swimming or a quieter waterfront walk. Staying outside the walls can work well when the bus and stairs suit you.

Give the walls their own part of the day
Buy through the official wall ticket shop or compare the Dubrovnik Pass before paying. Adult wall admission is €40 and includes Lovrijenac; children aged six and under enter free. The pass may suit a day with museums and local buses, but check its current coverage and activation rules against your plans. Wall tickets, Dubrovnik Pass.
Start while the weather is comfortable, carry water and take the exposed stairs seriously. This is a walk with limited shade, not a quick stop between lunch and a bus. If stairs are a problem, focus on the lower old-town streets and ask about access at the specific buildings you want to visit.

Choose a view, then enjoy the streets
The Srđ cable car costs €30 return or €17 one way for an adult. Check the operating notice before leaving: strong wind or lightning can stop it. A one-way ticket saves little if you later need paid transport back; the walking route is steep and exposed. Cable car tickets and times.
Afterwards, leave the afternoon loose. Walk through the old harbour, take a proper lunch break or return towards your room for a swim nearby. Avoid the wrong airport stop
From the airport, Platanus calls at Ploče before continuing to Gruž. For the return, use its published stops at Gruž bus station, Grawe or the cable-car stop. Do not wait at Pile because it looks closest to your old-town walk. A single ticket costs €10. Airport arrivals, Bus back to the airport.

Gruž suits bus and ferry arrivals. Lapad works for a longer stay with beach time, while an old-town room puts evening walks nearby. Ploče can have excellent access to the eastern gate but steep stairs. Ask the host for the actual route from your arrival stop, including steps.
Getting Around
Walk within the old town and use Libertas buses for longer trips. The airport shuttle arrives at Ploče and then Gruž; its return stops differ. If driving, arrange the permitted approach and parking with your accommodation before entering the restricted area near the walls.

Shop around Gruž for breakfast and picnic supplies before heading into the old town. For a restaurant meal, compare a full dish and drink rather than just the cheapest item on the board. Seafood priced per kilogram needs a portion weight and total before you order.
Worth Paying For
The city walls if you want to follow the defences and can manage the exposed stairs. The cable car gives a wider view with less climbing; you do not need both to enjoy the city.
Skip / Save Your Money
Several paid viewpoints in one short stay. Old-town lanes, the harbour and waterside walks can fill the rest of the day without another admission.
Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
The cable car is not included simply because a ticket is called a Dubrovnik pass. Check the exact inclusions. Boat offers also vary: a harbour cruise, an island transfer and a full excursion are different purchases.
