Kosovo Cultural Heart

Prizren is easily the most picturesque and atmospheric town in Kosovo, sitting at the foot of the Sharr Mountains along the Bistrica River.

Highlights in Prizren

  1. Kalaja Fortress: The hilltop fortress has guarded the mountain pass since Roman and Byzantine times. Walking up the paved cobblestone path takes 15 minutes from Shadervan square. Entry is completely free, and the sunset view over the town minarets and church towers is unmatched.
  2. Sinan Pasha Mosque: Built in 1615 using stones from a nearby Serbian monastery, its interior dome features delicate floral arabesques. Free entry outside prayer times.
  3. Old Stone Bridge: Spanning the river in the center of town, this 16th-century Ottoman bridge is the visual anchor of Prizren.

What to Eat

  • Qebapa: Grilled seasoned meat fingers served with somun bread, cabbage salad, and roasted peppers at Te Syla on the riverfront for €3.50.
  • Trilece: A luscious cake soaked in three kinds of milk and topped with caramel for €1.50 in Old Town cafes.
