Two days in Skopje with time for Matka

Give the first day to Skopje and the second to Matka Canyon when weather and transport suit. That creates space to understand the centre instead of photographing a few large monuments and leaving.

Day one: cross the centre slowly

Start around Macedonia Square, cross the Stone Bridge and continue into the Old Bazaar. The grand façades and statues around the modern centre are not all ancient remains. Read the dates and context, then compare them with the older streets, working places of worship and trading courtyards across the river.

Choose one museum or gallery rather than collecting entrances. Check its current opening information, allow time for the displays and follow visitor rules at working mosques and churches. Kale can add a wider view when access and footing are suitable.

Day two: treat Matka as a separate trip

JSP lists line 60 in its current schedule. Check the outward and return before leaving the accommodation. Save the correct stop, payment method and a later backup. A timetable remembered from another season is not enough.

The vehicle area, dam and waterside activities are not one point. Wear shoes for uneven paths and leave enough daylight for the walk back. If choosing a boat or kayak, ask for the route, duration, life jacket, cave access and return before paying.

A taxi can simplify the day only when the complete price and return pickup are agreed. Do not depend on finding another vehicle later.

Keep the airport and onward journey separate

Skopje Airport publishes its current shuttle information. The timetable follows flight activity, so use the departure for the actual flight and city stop. The airport shuttle is separate from the Matka bus and from intercity coaches.

If rain, crowding or a changed service makes Matka awkward, spend the second day in another Skopje district. A safe, simple city day is better than forcing the canyon before a flight or long coach.
