Koman Lake and the Valbona–Theth walk
Treat the ferry, road transfers and mountain crossing as separate parts of the trip, with enough time for each.
The journey through Koman Lake and the walk between Valbona and Theth can fit into one trip, but they are not one interchangeable tour. The ferry gets you along the lake; road transfers connect the valleys, and the mountain pass is a separate walking day.
Decide whether you want a lake excursion, a valley stay or the full walking route before booking. That choice affects transport, luggage and the number of nights you need.
The ferry is only part of the journey
As checked on 19 September 2026, Berisha's service page advertises Koman–Fierze at 09:00 and the reverse sailing at 13:00, with a passenger fare of €9 online or €10 or 1,000 ALL in cash. Confirm the service for your actual date, direction and booking before relying on it.
Add the transfers to Koman and from Fierze to Valbona separately unless your booking explicitly includes them. Check pickup location, luggage allowance and what happens if a connecting service is late. A passenger ticket is not automatically a transfer package.
If you are travelling with a car, ask about vehicle space and the pricing basis. Do not assume the passenger price includes the vehicle or that a reservation guarantees every later connection.
Give the mountain crossing its own day
The Valbona–Theth route crosses mountain terrain. Ask locally about snow, weather and the condition of the pass before setting out. Albania's protected-areas agency recorded snow and guide-related cautions for this route in its May 2026 visitor replies. Those dated replies illustrate why a summer-looking valley does not establish conditions at the pass; they are not a live report for your walking day.
Arrange accommodation on the relevant side of the pass and discuss the route with the host or a qualified local guide. Check the distance from the guesthouse to the actual trail start; a valley name on a booking does not locate the doorstep.
Carry water, food, suitable clothing and offline route information. If snow or the terrain requires skills beyond your experience, change the plan. Do not let the next night's booking become a reason to continue into unsuitable conditions.
Sort luggage and the return first
Decide what stays behind and what you carry over the pass. Confirm any luggage storage or transfer directly, including collection arrangements. Keep valuables and essential documents with you.
