Skopje is easiest to understand on foot between Macedonia Square, the Stone Bridge, the Old Bazaar and the fortress area. The centre mixes historic streets with much newer monuments and façades, so leave time to notice the difference rather than treating every landmark as ancient.

Use the river crossing to organise the first day
Start around Macedonia Square, cross the Stone Bridge and continue into the Old Bazaar. This gives a simple walk through the city's very different layers without doubling back. Add Kale or one museum if the arrival time and current access allow it. Save Debar Maalo, Vodno or another outer district for a separate block rather than stretching the central walk across the whole day.
The centre is compact, but summer heat, winter air, traffic and the slope towards the fortress can slow the route. A room near the centre is convenient for sightseeing; a room nearer the bus and railway stations can be better for an early departure. Check noise, vehicle access and the actual luggage walk before booking.
Treat Matka as an outing, not another city sight
JSP lists line 60 in its current schedule. Confirm both directions and the correct stop. After the bus there is still a walk towards the dam and water. Boat trips, kayaking and longer paths are separate choices with their own access and weather conditions.
Keep a flexible alternative in Skopje if the return does not work or conditions are poor. A museum, the Old Bazaar and a long meal make a better fallback than forcing an outdoor plan.
Plan arrivals from the correct terminal
Skopje Airport publishes its current shuttle information. Check the stop closest to the room and the service that matches the flight. The airport shuttle, city buses and intercity coaches are separate products.
For an onward trip, confirm whether you need the bus or railway station and leave time to reach it. Add airport travel, Matka, Vodno and paid interiors separately to the daily examples below.

Getting Around
Walk the central sights, then use the current JSP timetable for buses to outer districts and Matka. The airport shuttle and intercity terminal are separate products, so do not assume a city ticket covers them.

Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
Agree the meter or complete taxi price before moving, and do not treat persistent souvenir or guiding offers as official. Around the central monuments, read the date and context rather than accepting a dramatic appearance as proof of age.
