Six days can cover Skopje, Ohrid and Bitola at a comfortable pace. With less time, keep Skopje and Ohrid and leave Bitola for another journey. Matka is close to the capital on a map, but the bus, walk to the water and return still use most of a day.

Use Macedonian denars for everyday spending, keep Matka and airport travel outside the city allowance, and compare the current coach and train only where both actually run. Check the room location before paying for a cheaper address with a difficult luggage walk.
Skopje is easiest to understand on foot between Macedonia Square, the Stone Bridge, the Old Bazaar and the fortress area. The centre mixes historic streets with much newer monuments and façades, so leave time to notice the difference rather than treating every landmark as ancient.
Ohrid combines a compact lakeside centre with a steep old town, churches, viewpoints and boat departures. Stay long enough for an unhurried old-town walk and one separate lake or national-park outing instead of chasing a checklist.
Bitola offers an easy central walk along Širok Sokak, the old bazaar and nearby neighbourhoods, with Heraclea Lyncestis and Pelister as separate outings. It works well as an overnight stop between Skopje and Ohrid rather than a hurried extra on the same day.
Matka Canyon is a practical day trip from Skopje when the return transport, weather and daylight are checked first. The dam, waterside path, boat trips and cave visits are separate parts of the outing, and not every section suits every level of mobility.
