Divide the visit between the old town and the wider lake
Use the first day for the harbour, lakeside path and old-town lanes. The climb towards the fortress and upper churches is more comfortable when it is not combined with a long arrival. Choose the interiors that matter most and check access before walking uphill; working churches and archaeological places do not all follow the same hours.
Stay near the lower old town or waterfront for easy evening walks. A room higher on the slope may have a view but can mean repeated steep climbs with luggage. Properties farther from the centre can suit a quieter stay only when the bus stop, beach access and return after dinner are clear.
Choose one larger outing and leave room for the lake
Saint Naum, a boat journey or a nature visit can each fill much of a day. Compare the outward trip, time at the destination and return rather than choosing from a photograph. Boats depend on season and conditions; road transport may be the more reliable option. Keep a lakeside walk, museum or café as the poor-weather plan.
The wider Ohrid region is protected for both cultural and natural value. The UNESCO description is useful context, but the practical decision is to slow down and avoid treating every church, beach and viewpoint as one circuit.
Account for the bus station at both ends
Ohrid Bus Station is outside the most visited waterfront streets. Add the final taxi, local bus or walk to the room. For Skopje or Bitola, confirm the operator, station and return before fixing a day trip. If a flight or border journey follows, stay overnight instead of depending on the last useful coach.

Walk the town and lakefront. Check the exact boat product before paying, and treat Saint Naum, Galičica, the airport and the intercity bus station as separate journeys with their own return plan.
Eating for Less
Compare menus beyond the busiest waterfront tables and ask what is included in a fish order. A kitchen can help on a longer stay only when the complete room price and nearby shopping still make sense.

Choose one church interior, museum or well-explained boat outing that fits current access. The UNESCO value belongs to the wider natural and cultural region, not one paid viewpoint.
