Brussels daily costs and train trips around Belgium
Plan a Brussels city day, then add the actual rail costs for Bruges, Ghent or Antwerp without confusing city transport with a national pass.
A Brussels-based trip needs two budgets: one for staying in the city and another for days spent travelling around Belgium. A metro ticket does not cover the train to Bruges, and a rail discount product is not unlimited travel.
Start with the nights and journeys you actually plan.
A Brussels city-day example
The following is an illustrative allowance for one person sharing a €110 room with another adult. The room assumption includes mandatory charges.

STIB’s 2026 contactless information lists €2.40 per ordinary journey and an €8.50 daily cap. Airport travel and other operators require their own coverage check.
The food and sightseeing figures are allowances, not current quotes. Replace them with the meals and visits you choose.
Build day trips around actual rail fares
Use SNCB’s planner and Train+ information with each traveller’s age. The discount rules differ, and the monthly product only makes sense if the eligible savings exceed its cost.
For adults aged 26–64, the monthly Train+ price is €6. It is not a pass giving unlimited Belgian train travel. Our Belgian ticket guide explains the current options and airport supplements.
Buy before boarding. SNCB ended ordinary on-board ticket sales from 1 July 2026, so check the current purchase instructions rather than relying on older advice about paying the conductor.
Give each place enough time
Bruges and Ghent can both be reached on a Belgium itinerary, but trying to see several cities in a single day reduces time for the places you came to enjoy. Pick the visit that matters most and keep the return manageable.
