Ghent or Antwerp for a Flemish city break?

Ghent is a good fit when you want much of your sightseeing within a compact historic centre. Antwerp suits a trip with more movement between the old town, riverfront and different museum districts. Both deserve more than a quick photograph on the way to somewhere else.

A day in Ghent

A day in Antwerp

Allow time to look around Antwerpen-Centraal before continuing towards the old town. Choose a museum that matches your interests rather than treating fashion, paintings and port history as one rushed checklist.

The MAS is a useful focus for a river and port-themed day. Its public boulevard and panorama have different access arrangements from the exhibition galleries. Check current opening information, especially if the rooftop is your main reason for going.

You can then spend time around the docks or return towards the Scheldt and the historic centre. These areas are spread out enough that comfortable shoes or a local transport journey can make the day easier.

Compare the stay you would actually book

Look at room prices for the same dates and check the route from the station. A central hotel may save repeated transfers, while a station-area room can be useful for several day trips. Neither city is reliably cheaper on every weekend.
