Bordeaux or Toulouse for a short break?

Choose between wine-focused visits and aviation or space museums, then leave time for the river and the city itself.

On this page

Bordeaux is a useful choice if wine culture is central to your trip. Toulouse suits visitors drawn to aviation, space and a lively city centre. Both deserve time beyond one headline attraction, and neither needs a packed day-trip schedule to fill a weekend.

A weekend based in Bordeaux

Spend your first day walking the central streets and the Garonne waterfront. Put the Cité du Vin on the second day if its exhibitions interest you. Read the ticket description carefully, since the permanent visit and other tasting experiences are different products.

A vineyard visit outside Bordeaux needs its own transport plan. Check the distance from the station or bus stop to the estate, not just the journey to the nearest town. If you have only two days, staying in the city can be more relaxing than arranging a rushed excursion.

A weekend based in Toulouse

Begin around the Capitole and continue towards the Garonne for a walk with room to stop. Use another half or full day for a museum that matches your interests rather than trying to see every science attraction.

Aeroscopia is in Blagnac, outside the central walking area. The museum's practical information distinguishes its aircraft collection from the separately arranged Airbus visits. Factory visits have their own booking and identification requirements, so an ordinary museum ticket should not be treated as a factory reservation.

In bad weather, an indoor collection is useful, but check the venue's conditions too. Aeroscopia notes that its exhibition hall is neither heated nor air-conditioned.

Let the journey help you choose

Compare your actual rail or flight connections, then check the hotel-to-station or airport route. A late arrival and early departure can reduce a supposed weekend to one full day. Give that day to the city with the attraction you most want to see.
