Sarajevo on a practical budget
Build a Sarajevo budget in convertible marks, separate the airport and mountain trips, and leave enough time for the city’s history.
Sarajevo can be inexpensive without turning the visit into a race for the lowest price. The centre is walkable, simple meals are easy to find, and a careful plan can leave room for one museum, a mountain outing or a longer coffee stop.
Work in convertible marks, shown as BAM or KM. The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina maintains the fixed relationship of EUR 1 to BAM 1.95583. A fixed official rate does not remove card conversion, withdrawal or exchange-office charges, so read each offer before confirming it.
Start with a replaceable example

If one person uses the whole room, add the other BAM 60. Replace every line with the booking, menu and visit you actually choose. Airport travel, Trebević, intercity tickets and organised tours stay outside this example.
Eat by portion, not by legend
For ćevapi, ask which portion you are ordering and what comes with it. Burek and other filled pastries are often sold by weight or portion. Compare the displayed menu and the full order instead of treating one old named restaurant as permanently cheap.
Kajmak is a rich dairy product, not simply another word for sour cream. Ask what accompanies the dish and what is charged separately.
Choose history visits carefully
Sarajevo’s recent history deserves more than a hurried photo stop. Choose a museum for what it explains and allow time to read. Follow photography rules and do not expect guides or residents to turn personal trauma into entertainment.

Keep the airport separate
Sarajevo Airport’s Bentbaša bus notice lists a BAM 5 fare. Weekday, weekend and daily departures differ. Check the current time for your flight rather than assuming a fixed frequency.
