Vienna to Bratislava by train

Bratislava is an easy city to consider for a day away from Vienna, but choose the arrival station before buying. Bratislava hlavná stanica and Bratislava-Petržalka are different places. Either may work, depending on where you want to go next.

What the return offer covers

The Bratislava Ticket is for eligible cross-border regional travel between Vienna and Bratislava. ÖBB also includes Bratislava public transport on the first day of validity. Check the exact validity dates and train categories when buying, especially if you intend to stay overnight.

It is not a reason to assume every fast train, sightseeing boat or Vienna metro ride is included. Keep the ticket conditions available and use a separate local ticket where needed.

ÖBB describes journeys of about an hour, but use the departure-specific result. Allow additional time from your Vienna accommodation and from the Bratislava station to the old town.

Plan a relaxed visit

Choose one or two main stops, then leave room to wander. The old town and a walk towards the castle can fill much of a first visit without a packed schedule. A long sit-down lunch may be a better use of the day than rushing through several paid attractions.

For local transport and sights, use Visit Bratislava. Check the current connection from your arrival station rather than relying on a bus number from an old itinerary.

Save a return departure and a later backup before leaving Vienna. Recheck the timetable on the day, particularly during works. Keep the full station name visible when navigating back, so you do not head to the wrong side of the city.
