Sheki is a historic Caucasus foothill city known for the Khan's Palace, caravanserai, crafts and a green setting. The visitor area is compact but sloping, while the railway station and some countryside sights are well outside the centre.

Stay long enough for the historic centre
Sheki's palace, caravanserai area, streets and workshops deserve more than the gap between two long journeys. Use the arrival day for orientation and give the next morning to the main interiors. Check current access, photography rules and whether a workshop welcomes visitors before entering.
A room near the historic centre suits walking. The bus terminal and railway station are outside the visitor core and in different places. Confirm the transfer to the actual accommodation, especially after a sleeper arrival or with luggage.
Choose one countryside addition
Nearby villages, churches and mountain roads require transport and a return plan. Agree the destination, route, waiting time and complete price before hiring a driver. If time is short, stay in Sheki rather than spending most of the day in a car.
Compare the current coach and sleeper
The official bus-terminal listing shows Baku to Sheki coaches taking about four hours, with the displayed departures listed at 13.60 AZN. The Baku to Balakan sleeper leaves Baku at 23:50 and calls at Sheki at 06:05 under the timetable effective 1 April 2026. For the return, the timetable shows Sheki at 00:41 and Baku at 06:50.
The sleeper protects sightseeing time but creates an early arrival and needs a station transfer. The coach uses more of the day but may be simpler. Use the Baku to Sheki guide for the official links, then ask the accommodation how it handles an early station arrival.

A room near the historic centre helps with the palace and evening walk. A caravanserai stay can be atmospheric but should be checked for stairs, heating, bathrooms, vehicle access and current operating status.
Getting Around
Walk the historic area at a comfortable pace, then arrange a taxi or clear local ride for Kish, the railway station or an outer guesthouse. Confirm the return before leaving town.
Eating for Less
Try local piti or sweets after checking the menu, portion and service. A dish prepared to order may take time, so do not place it beside a tight train or coach departure.
Worth Paying For
The Khan's Palace is a central heritage visit when current access allows enough time. A local craft workshop can also be worthwhile when the maker and price are clear.

Historic streets, views and parts of the caravanserai area can still give a useful visit without buying every small museum ticket.
