Korčula Town makes a comfortable base for an old-town walk, a meal by the water and a separate outing towards Lumbarda. The island is much larger than the town: a ferry to Vela Luka arrives at the other end, so choose your port before choosing your room.

Keep the old-town day compact
Enter through the land gate and work slowly towards the cathedral square. The lanes and steps are the main part of the walk; you do not need to book every stop. Visit St Mark's Cathedral or its bell tower if the opening time and climb suit you, then leave the later afternoon for the waterfront.
The tower is a paid visit and has a tight staircase. Confirm the current ticket and access before buying. A museum is an alternative if the climb is unsuitable or the weather closes in. Korčula heritage information.
Lumbarda is a separate outing
Choose a beach, village walk or winery visit rather than attempting all three between buses. Take picnic supplies from town and check the return journey before you settle in. If you book a tasting, ask what it includes and how you will get back afterwards.

Three arrival names worth recognising
Korčula Town is the convenient passenger-boat destination for this guide. Dominče is the nearby car-ferry port serving Orebić. Vela Luka is across the island and requires a much longer onward journey.

If you are continuing to Dubrovnik, book that sailing before committing to a one-night stop. Outside the suitable season, a mainland connection through Orebić may fit better. Keep your last island night clear of an early mainland flight the following morning.

Getting Around
Walk in the old town and use a bus, taxi or hired bicycle for a wider outing. Passenger boats can use either side of the town depending on conditions. Car ferries for Orebić use Dominče, outside the old town, so allow for the transfer.
Eating for Less
Buy bread, fruit and water in town before leaving for a beach. For a sit-down meal, look for žrnovski makaruni, the island’s hand-rolled pasta, and compare the sauce and portion. A Grk wine tasting is easier to enjoy with an arranged ride back than with an uncertain last bus.
Worth Paying For
St Mark’s bell tower if you want the view and are comfortable with its narrow climb. A museum can add more to a wet afternoon than another short boat ride.
Skip / Save Your Money
A taxi across the island because the cheaper ferry landed at the wrong end. Compare the complete journey before buying, including the final trip to your room.
