Climb the old town while it is cooler
Start with the harbour, then follow the lanes uphill to St Euphemia's church. Stop when you want to: polished stone, uneven paving and steps make this a slower walk with luggage or a pushchair.
The bell tower is a separate paid climb on steep wooden stairs. Look at the conditions before buying a ticket, especially if heights bother you. You can still enjoy the church area and the outside view without climbing the tower. Rovinj sights and walks.
Return through different lanes for lunch. At the market, choose food you can actually use that day; large jars and tasting bundles are not always the cheapest way to buy a picnic. Olive oil makes a better purchase after you have compared bottle sizes and prices.
Walk beyond the harbour
Set aside an afternoon for the coast towards Zlatni rt, also called Golden Cape. Bring water and allow time to stop at the coves rather than turning the outing into a race to a distant beach. A bicycle extends your range, but check the hire period and return time before riding away.
In unsettled weather, shorten the coast walk and spend more time in the town's galleries, cafés or an open museum. A windier day is not a reason to force the boat trip you had imagined when booking the holiday.
Make the coach fit the stay
The bus station is outside the old-town lanes. Ask your host where you can leave bags on arrival and how to reach the room without following a car route into pedestrian streets.

An old-town room is convenient for dinner but may mean carrying luggage up cobbles and stairs. Near the bus station, arrivals are easier and the centre is still close. Rooms towards the southern beaches suit a longer stay; check the walking route back after dinner.
Getting Around
Explore the old town on foot. A car is more useful for the wider Istrian countryside than for these narrow streets. For cycling around Zlatni rt, choose a suitable bike and route, and leave it outside the tightest pedestrian lanes.
Eating for Less
Browse the green market by the old town for fruit and picnic food, but compare prices rather than assuming every market stall is a bargain. For a restaurant meal, look at fuži pasta or a daily cooked dish before choosing fish by weight. Ask for the full fish price before it is prepared.
Worth Paying For
St Euphemia’s bell tower if you enjoy a steep climb and the weather gives a clear view. A bicycle can be worthwhile for a longer coastal ride when walking would take up most of the day.
