Choose a manageable section of the Wine Route
The official regional guide describes a route of more than 170 kilometres between Marlenheim and Thann, with an additional northern section. Treat it as a collection of possible outings. For one day, our recommendation is two villages with time for lunch, rather than a quick photograph in five.
A base in Colmar makes a different trip from a base in Strasbourg. Pick the town you want to return to at night, then arrange the village transport from there.
Know what the excursion ticket buys
Kut’zig lists a €32 adult day ticket for unlimited boarding and leaving on its route. The operator’s main page requires a reservation to board. Choose an operating date, look at the full timetable and keep a return option that does not rely on the last possible connection.
The price buys transport, not every tasting or meal in the villages. Book a winery visit separately if that is the main reason for the outing. On another day, leave the transport budget for a museum or meal in your base town.
A castle outing from Sélestat
Haut-Koenigsbourg lists adult entry at €12. The 2026 shuttle links Sélestat station and the castle on its operating dates. It costs €3 each way, cash only, and the bus ticket qualifies you for reduced castle admission. Keep it to show at the entrance.

Getting Around
Use trains for the main town-to-town links, then a separate village service where needed. Kut’zig offers a reserved hop-on, hop-off day ticket on its wine-route circuit for €32 per adult. Check its operating date before building a village day around it.
Eating for Less
For a simple shared meal, look for tarte flambée in a winstub or restaurant that lists it. Ask about the serving size before ordering another full dish. Reserve a tasting as a separate activity if wine is the main interest.
Worth Paying For
A reserved wine-village bus day can be useful if you want to taste without arranging a driver. Pick two stops you want time to explore and plan the last boarding point before leaving the first village.

A day in Strasbourg or Colmar can be complete with an old-town walk, a meal and one museum. You do not need to buy a vineyard excursion for every day in the region.
