Use the station your train actually leaves from

Dublin Heuston serves Galway and the main route towards Killarney. Dublin Connolly serves the Enterprise to Belfast. They are separate stations across the city. A Galway-to-Belfast journey through Dublin needs time for that transfer, not a cross-platform connection.

For accommodation, test the early journey to the station you will use. A room near the centre can still be inconvenient for a departure if the bus or tram starts too late. Ask the hotel about luggage storage if you want to walk before a later train.

Choose between Leap and the Visitor Card

The TFI zone guide lists the adult Leap 90-minute fare at €2 for eligible travel. The relevant multimode caps are €6 per day and €24 per Monday-to-Sunday week. Coverage and operator exclusions matter, so do not apply those caps to every coach around Dublin.

The Leap Visitor Card costs €8 for 24 hours, €18 for 72 hours or €24 for 168 hours, starting with first use. Those rolling periods differ from a weekly cap. Compare the journeys you expect to make: a mostly walking visit can cost less with ordinary Leap fares.

These products use Leap. Do not assume tapping a normal debit card on any bus or train produces the same fare. Follow the instructions for the actual service and have a usable payment method ready before boarding.

Airport travel is another decision

Dublin Bus routes 19 and 41 serve the airport. Route 19 links towards Merrion Square; 41 serves the city via Lower Abbey Street. Check which direction and stop suit your room, and allow for the stops along the way.

Dublin Express and other airport coaches use their own tickets and routes. Compare the final stop rather than only the advertised fastest running time. If continuing directly to Galway, an airport coach may avoid a trip into Dublin to reach Heuston.

Reserve Kilmainham before arranging the day

Kilmainham Gaol requires advance booking, with adult entry at €8. Use the museum's official ticket seller, linked from that page. Resold or third-party tickets are not accepted, so an apparent availability offer elsewhere is not a dependable alternative.

If you do not have a ticket, choose another visit. The National Museum of Ireland's Archaeology site on Kildare Street is free and pairs naturally with nearby central streets. Choose the galleries that interest you instead of trying to see every object.

For an evening session, ask the pub when the music starts and whether food is still served then. A venue can be a good choice for the occasion even when it is not the cheapest drink in the city. Check the bill's full terms and the journey back to your room.
