Walk a short route well
Link De Ferrari, a manageable section of the caruggi and the old port rather than trying to cross every lane. The streets can be indirect, and a hotel a short straight-line distance away may involve stairs or a slope. Save the entrance address and ask your host about the easiest luggage route.
For another part of the day, walk Via Garibaldi and choose a palace interior if it interests you. The public street itself does not require a museum ticket.
Keep the viewpoint separate from the lift fare
Spianata Castelletto is a public viewpoint. Reaching it by AMT lift is a transport journey, and older advice saying all lifts are free is out of date. The operator's fare-change notice confirms paid metro and vertical services from November 2025.
The Castelletto lift information helps you choose the approach from Piazza Portello. If walking up, allow for the climb rather than assuming the free viewpoint is a level walk from the port.
Choose your station for the next journey
Genova Piazza Principe and Genova Brignole are different stations. Check the one on your ticket before choosing where to leave your luggage. For Cinque Terre, search the actual village or base, and read any change at La Spezia or Sestri Levante.

Where to Stay
Brignole is useful for eastern rail journeys; Principe suits some arrivals and the western centre. Around De Ferrari, check the final lane and any stairs rather than judging the room from its distance alone.
Getting Around
Walk in the old town and use AMT for hills and longer journeys. The earlier free metro and lift arrangements have ended; check the ticket needed for the service you plan to take.
Eating for Less
Focaccia makes a useful bakery stop. Look at the price by weight or piece and choose the amount you want. A pesto pasta lunch can fit later without treating every bakery as a complete meal.
Worth Paying For
A palace museum if you want to see beyond the façades. Read the current rooms and exhibitions included before comparing its ticket with another attraction.
Skip / Save Your Money
The aquarium if marine life is not one of your interests. It can be a worthwhile visit for adults or children who want it, rather than an automatic stop for every itinerary.
