Vaduz Travel Guide
Vaduz is the capital of Liechtenstein and the focus of most short visits. Its compact centre, the Städtle, holds the art museum, the government buildings and the pedestrian street within a short walk, with the prince's castle on the slope above. Buses leave from Vaduz Post for the valley and the mountain villages, and many visitors see the town in a few hours.

Arriving in the valley
Vaduz has no railway station, so most visitors arrive by bus. From Switzerland, take a train to Sargans and continue on a LIEmobil service to Vaduz Post beside the centre. Allow roughly 90 to 120 minutes from Zurich for the whole trip as a planning range, and check the timetable for your date. Buses also come from Buchs and, in Austria, from Feldkirch. Buy your ticket from the driver or activate an electronic ticket before boarding.
The museums
The Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, with the Hilti Art Foundation, holds modern and contemporary work in a building on the Städtle. A combined standard ticket costs CHF 15, and Wednesday entry is free. Opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00, with a late finish at 20:00 on Thursday; the museum closes on Monday apart from listed exceptions. Entrance is at Städtle 32 on the pedestrian side. The National Museum has a separate ticket, CHF 10 for adults and CHF 13 with the Treasury, so do not expect the same free day. The castle walk
Vaduz Castle is the princely family's home and is not open to visitors. There is no bus or car park at the top, so reaching the outside view means an uphill walk of around twenty minutes from the centre. The path climbs, so it suits comfortable shoes.
Day trip or overnight
A day trip works for the centre and one museum, and it fits well from Sargans or Feldkirch. Staying overnight gives a quieter evening, time for the castle walk and an earlier start towards Triesenberg or Malbun. A base in Vaduz or nearby Schaan keeps both the valley and the mountain line within reach.
Onward to the mountains
Line 21 leaves Vaduz Post for Triesenberg and Malbun, taking about twelve minutes to Triesenberg Dorfzentrum and about thirty minutes to Malbun Zentrum. Some departures stop at Triesenberg Guferwald, so check that your bus continues to Malbun. The Vaduz to Malbun route and the Vaduz to Triesenberg route set out the connections. Stay in the centre if you want the museum and restaurants close by. Places near Vaduz Post keep the bus simple, since line 21 climbs to Triesenberg and Malbun from there. Sargans, Buchs and Feldkirch are alternative bases across the border.

The centre is small and best explored on foot. Buses leave from Vaduz Post: line 21 runs to Triesenberg and Malbun, and line 11 runs between Sargans, Vaduz and Feldkirch. Buy from the driver or activate an electronic ticket before boarding, and check the timetable because departures vary by day.
Eating for Less
Choose a simple lunch and save a restaurant meal for the evening if that suits your budget. For a mountain day, arrange lunch before leaving the valley. If you plan to cook, check the accommodation actually includes kitchen access.

Skip / Save Your Money
The pedestrian centre is manageable on foot if walking suits you. A paid sightseeing ride may add little to a short visit focused on the Städtle. Leave the mountain outing for another day if you also want time inside a museum.

Vaduz Castle is a private home with no public interior visits. Decide whether you want the uphill walk for the outside view before setting off. The museum collections have separate ticket arrangements, so choose the one that interests you before buying a pass.
