Žabljak is the main base for Durmitor National Park, Black Lake and longer mountain activities. A lake walk, a high summit and a Tara Canyon excursion are not interchangeable. Match the plan to weather, daylight, transport and experience.

Start with Black Lake
Use the first clear day for Black Lake and a route that matches your time. The official Montenegro mountain-town guide identifies Žabljak as the main Durmitor base.
Treat high routes as mountain days
Durmitor is a UNESCO World Heritage property. A summit walk needs suitable weather, footwear, navigation and experience. Check local trail conditions and use a qualified guide when the route or conditions call for one.
Arrange transport before leaving town
The Tara bridge, remote viewpoints and the Durmitor Ring need their own road plan. A panoramic-road map is not a promise of public transport. Keep a lower-level alternative for cloud, wind, snow or heavy rain.
