Montegiardino is a small village district in southeastern San Marino. Come for a short walk through its old core and the setting around the church, rather than expecting a second version of the capital's towers and souvenir streets. It makes more sense as an unhurried extra outing than a must-see stop on a first day trip.
The official account of the nine castelli describes the historic core and church. Do not assume the church interior will be open whenever you arrive. Enjoy the public lanes and exterior, and ask locally before entering a place being used for worship.
Book the journey before planning lunch
