Borgo Maggiore is a market town beneath San Marino's historic centre. It is worth treating as a place for a walk and a meal, rather than only a cable-car queue. The market area around Piazza Grande and the streets below Monte Titano give you a different view of the country from the ridge above.
Start in the old market area, look towards the mountain, then choose whether to go up the same afternoon or save the towers for the next morning. The official district overview explains Borgo's place within the country's nine castelli. Check the current market calendar if stalls are the reason for your visit; the square is still there on a non-market day.
Use the cable car as a connection
The lower station is at Piazzale Campo della Fiera, by the P11 parking area. The upper arrival is near the Cantone panoramic area of the historic centre. A standard adult ticket costs €4 single or €7 return. Read the AASS fares and operating hours before buying.

Arrive at the stop that suits your room
The international Rimini bus stops in Borgo Maggiore as well as continuing uphill. Its published full Rimini–Borgo fare is €6 single. Confirm the stop shown in the operator's timetable and the walk to your accommodation. Do not assume the cable-car forecourt and international-bus stop are the same place.
For domestic village travel, SMUVI accepts bookings between designated stops. Arrange the return before heading somewhere quieter. An app request is not a private door-to-door taxi reservation, and travel after the temporary free-bus period needs the current fare rules.
A useful base for one night
Borgo works well when you want an evening meal below the ridge and a tower visit the next day. Compare the actual hotel location, dinner options and bag storage. In rain, use a confirmed open museum in the upper town rather than making the exposed ridge compulsory.
The two-day itinerary gives Borgo its own arrival afternoon and includes only one hotel night. Add Montegiardino on an extra day if you want a slower village outing.
