What this budget covers
The daily figures give a starting budget for one traveller. Journey fares are shown separately. Use the cost calculator to plan your own accommodation, meals and transport, and include any fares mentioned in the day-by-day plan only once.
Build your travel budget
One base and one hotel night
Spend the first afternoon in Borgo Maggiore, sleep there, then take the cable car to San Marino's historic centre the next day. This is a two-day plan with one hotel night. It leaves room for the market-town streets, a meal and a proper tower visit without changing accommodation.
Choose your arrival and return international buses before reserving the room. The Rimini service stops in Borgo as well as continuing to San Marino. Ask your accommodation about bag storage on day two and confirm the walk from the bus stop.
Day one: settle into Borgo
After arrival, walk around the old market area and find somewhere for dinner. You can ride up for a first view if the cable-car hours fit, but it is optional. Saving the upper town for the next day keeps the first afternoon flexible if your train is late.
Day two: the old centre and towers
Take the cable car, look around Piazza della Libertà and choose the First and Second Towers or an indoor museum. Palazzo Pubblico is listed as closed through 30 September 2026; check reopening before planning an interior visit. Return to collect bags with enough time for the international bus.
For wet weather or a less demanding day, make the Museo di Stato the main paid stop and shorten the ridge walk. If you want Montegiardino, add a night and book the domestic journey rather than squeezing it in before departure.
Understand the €214 example
For one traveller, the chosen allowances are €142 on day one and €72 on day two. Together they include one whole private room at €90, food at €80 across two days, local transport at €15, one €11 state-museum circuit ticket and €18 for extras. These are planning allowances, not room offers or a measured average.
Only the €90 room amount is shared when two people use the same room. Replace it with the actual total including mandatory charges. Ask your San Marino accommodation about the TuttoSanMarino Card before buying the museum ticket: eligible guests may pay €8 instead of €11. Adjust the local transport line for the rides you actually take; do not add the same cable-car ticket again below.
International buses, trains and airport journeys are additional. The city calculators offer an alternative way to build these days, so do not add their totals on top. For a single day, keep the upper town and one museum choice, with no hotel night in San Marino.
