Valencia gives you three different days in one place: old streets and markets, a long walk through the Turia Gardens, and time by the sea. They sit far enough apart that choosing a focus each morning makes the visit more relaxed.

Give the centre and the coast separate time
Start a city day around the market and old centre, with stops close enough that you can change your mind as you walk. The Turia Gardens make a useful next part of the day, but they are a long park rather than one small garden. Pick the section you want to explore and a sensible place to leave it.
Save the beach for another half-day if you can. Crossing between the old centre, the City of Arts and Sciences and the seafront repeatedly uses time you could spend having lunch or sitting by the water. With children, one main visit and an outdoor stop may be plenty.
Choose a travel ticket for your journeys
The regional government's current discount announcement keeps the one-zone SUMA 10 at €5.40 for ten journeys through 31 December 2026. Buying the card itself is separate. Do not use that figure as an airport fare: check the zones and airport coverage on the machine before paying.
A tourist card may suit a busy stay, but compare the transport and visits you will actually use. A discount at a major attraction is different from admission being included. Keep the card's first-use time in mind if you activate it late in the day.
Make lunch the rice meal you want
Rice dishes are a good reason to leave space for lunch. Read the menu before sitting down and ask whether a pan requires two diners. The displayed amount may be per person, even though the food arrives in a shared pan.
Paella is often a lunch choice here, but dinner is not a test of whether you are travelling correctly. If your day only allows an evening meal, choose somewhere whose menu and cooking arrangements suit you. Ask what is included in a set lunch rather than assuming drinks, bread and dessert all come with it.
Buy visits separately when that fits better
The buildings around the City of Arts and Sciences can be enjoyed from the public outdoor areas. For paid visits, look at the actual programme and how long your group wants to spend inside. A combined ticket is worthwhile only when you would have chosen those visits anyway.
An Albufera outing needs its own return plan. Check the exact village, pier or walking route you mean, then check transport back before going. A broad destination name on a map can cover quite different starting points.
Continue along the coast or head inland
Madrid and Barcelona connect with Valencia by rail, but compare the station named on your own booking. A cheaper ticket becomes less convenient if it leaves too little time for the station transfer. For a longer coastal trip, give Alicante an overnight stay rather than adding it as a rushed extra stop.
Where to Stay
Compare the old centre for sightseeing, Russafa for restaurants and evening life, or a beach address for a stay built around the coast. Check the actual journey between your room and the places you want to visit.
Getting Around
Walk within the centre, then use buses, metro or trams for longer trips. Choose tickets for the zones you will use; a city journey and an airport journey do not have the same coverage.
Eating for Less
For a rice lunch, ask which dishes are cooked to order, the minimum number of people and whether the menu price is per person. A shared pan can be good value when its size fits your group.
Worth Paying For
Choose one indoor attraction you actually want to spend time in. The aquarium and science museum suit different interests, and buying both is only useful if your schedule allows it.
Skip / Save Your Money
Leave an afternoon for the Turia Gardens or the seafront. You do not need a combined attraction package to enjoy the city's outdoor spaces.
Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
Check what a tourist card includes before comparing it with individual tickets. Access to city museums does not mean every attraction in the City of Arts and Sciences is included.
