Istanbul is easier when each day stays on one side of the Bosphorus or along one rail and ferry corridor. Sultanahmet holds the major historic sights, while Karaköy, Beyoğlu, Kadıköy and the neighbourhoods between them give the city its everyday rhythm.

Divide the city into workable days
Keep Sultanahmet for one focused historic day. Choose the major interiors that matter most, leave time for security and prayer closures, and resist crossing the city for one extra landmark. Use another day for Eminönü, the Golden Horn, Karaköy and lower Beyoğlu. Give Kadıköy or another Asian-side district its own half day, linked by an ordinary public ferry.
Sultanahmet makes an early historic start easy but can feel quiet and expensive at night. Karaköy and lower Beyoğlu suit ferries and rail links, though hills and evening noise vary street by street. Kadıköy works well for the Asian side but adds a crossing to most imperial sights. Check the route from the actual airport before accepting any room.
Use the network by corridor
Save the current Metro Istanbul network map. The T1 corridor is useful for the historic peninsula, Marmaray crosses beneath the Bosphorus, and ferries connect waterfront districts. Confirm the line destination and interchange rather than memorising one route. A public ferry is transport; a packaged cruise is a different product.
Start and finish at the correct airport
Istanbul Airport and Sabiha Gökçen are on opposite sides of the metropolitan area. The M4 serves Sabiha Gökçen and connects towards Kadıköy. Other airport routes and buses should be checked for the current stop and operating time.
Hills, queues and ferry waits make a short map distance misleading. Keep the last day close to the accommodation and allow a generous airport margin. Add major admissions, airport travel and intercity tickets separately to the daily budget.

Getting Around
Use the current rail map, ordinary public ferries and a suitable Istanbulkart product. Confirm the line direction and transfer at every interchange. Airport metros, airport buses and intercity stations need their own route and enough luggage time.

Choose one major interior or museum that matters to you and check its official ticket and access. A full day of paid sights can be less useful than one careful visit plus ferries and neighbourhood walks.
Skip / Save Your Money
Public squares, mosque courtyards when open to visitors, waterfront walks and ordinary ferries can form a rich day without buying a packaged cruise.
Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
Do not follow an unofficial guide or shop invitation because someone claims a sight is closed. At taxis, boats and restaurants, confirm the official product, meter or complete price before moving.
