During your trip: tickets, money and changes

A short check before leaving your room can save a wasted journey. Confirm the return service, any booking time and the ticket you need for the whole trip.

Before boarding

Read how your ticket is activated or validated. A booking email, a transport pass and a reservation can be different things. Keep the ticket easy to reach and use the same card or device when a transport system requires it. Check the rules for that city rather than carrying habits over from your last stop.

When the plan changes

If a service is delayed, speak to the operator before buying a replacement. Keep the original ticket, the disruption message and any written instructions. Tell your accommodation if you will arrive after the agreed time.

Keep spending easy to follow

Record the full amount paid, including fees. Split shared rooms and taxis by the people sharing them; count individual tickets separately. A quick daily check makes it easier to adjust tomorrow without dropping the part of the trip you most wanted.

Keep an offline fallback

Save the hotel address, a map of its neighbourhood and important booking references. Carry a second payment option separately where practical. If your phone stops working, you should still be able to find your room and explain which service you booked.
