Plan the full cost of a flight
Use the cost of reaching your accommodation, not just the flight price. A cheaper arrival airport can still work well, but only when its transfer and timing fit your trip.
Compare the same journey
Include the bag you need, any seat choice you intend to buy, transport at both ends and the cost of a late arrival. For two airports serving the same city, check the final destination of the bus or train rather than assuming both stop near your room.
Give connections enough room
A flight time excludes check-in, security, baggage collection and the trip to and from the airport. Separate bookings need particular care because a delay on one may leave the next booking unchanged. Compare a rail option using its full station-to-door journey too.
Keep the important conditions
Save the fare rules and baggage allowance you bought. If a flight changes or is cancelled, read the airline’s offer before accepting a refund or paying for a replacement. Use the passenger-rights guide when you need to check the next step.
