NOR-WAY's Kystbussen NW400 connects Bergen and Stavanger along the coast. The operator distinguishes express departures of roughly 4 hours 20–30 minutes from regular journeys of about 5 hours 25 minutes. Check the service you are buying rather than treating every departure as a four-hour trip.
The route includes the Halhjem–Sandvikvåg and Arsvågen–Mortavika ferry crossings. These are part of the coach journey and its fare; you do not need to arrange a separate foot-passenger ferry ticket for the same ride. Follow the driver's instructions on board and return to the coach when told.
Compare the complete ticket
Look at the listed departure and arrival stops before booking. A coach serving your part of the city can save a local transfer, but a faster service may skip intermediate stops. Keep luggage allowances, change rules and any discount eligibility in the comparison. The price varies by departure, so use the final quote rather than an old low-fare example.
This is a coastal coach journey, not a direct train ride. Travelling between the cities by rail takes a different and much longer route through southern Norway. Flying is another option, with airport transfers and luggage costs to add.

A Preikestolen hike needs its own day, transport and suitable weather; it is not a useful extra after a long coach trip.
For an airport connection, choose the airport and direction explicitly. A city-to-city ticket should not be assumed to include an airport extension. Leave enough time for traffic and airline check-in, or stay in Stavanger before an early flight.
