Choose the exact departure and read the fare conditions before paying. A restrictive fare ties the long-distance journey to the booked service. Check seat reservations and local connections separately. |
Choosing your journey
Plan roughly four to five hours on a suitable fast direct ICE to München Hbf. Compare the whole journey with a flight or coach, including local transport and ticket flexibility. The cheapest advertised fare is not guaranteed on your departure.

Compare the train before booking a flight
Direct ICE services connect Berlin with Munich without an airport transfer. For planning, allow roughly four to five hours on a suitable fast service. DB's current route page shows a fastest example of 4 hours 5 minutes, but the departure you choose may take longer. Check Berlin to Munich trains and compare the full journey to your accommodation.
Start at the right Berlin station
Berlin Hbf is the main starting point in the search, while some services also call at Südkreuz. Check the actual train before choosing a boarding station. If you are arriving at BER, allow for the airport journey and flight delays before buying a ticket tied to one departure.
München Hbf is useful for central accommodation and onward transport. It is not Munich Airport. If flying onwards, add a separate airport connection and a generous buffer. For a same-day international departure, an overnight stay may give you a more comfortable plan.
Choose between time, price and flexibility
| Option | Useful for | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Fast direct ICE | A daytime journey between central stations | The fare and stopping pattern vary by departure |
| A slower or connecting train | A better price or timing that fits your day | More time travelling and possible transfers |
| Coach | A fare that makes the longer trip worthwhile | Road travel and the exact bus-stop locations |
Compare the actual FlixBus service if considering a coach. Its station names and arrival times matter as much as the fare. An overnight coach may reduce accommodation spending, but compare the sleep you expect, luggage storage and how you will spend the morning before check-in.
Use your travel date for a current quote. Check reservation costs if sitting together matters. Do not assume a pass includes local transport, an ICE ticket or a seat unless its terms say so.
Read the ticket conditions
Super Sparpreis is a restrictive fare for the booked long-distance service. Compare alternatives if your plans are uncertain. Buying a few weeks ahead is worth checking, but it does not guarantee a particular price.
The Deutschland-Ticket normally covers local and regional transport rather than ICE. Using regional trains for this distance means planning a much longer trip with changes. Decide whether that is how you want to spend the day before treating the subscription as your main travel ticket.
Plan an easy arrival
Leave the first Munich evening for check-in, dinner and a short walk if you have energy. Save a long museum or palace visit for the next day. Read the Munich guide for local tickets and neighbourhood choices, and Berlin and Munich compared if deciding how to divide your nights.
The ten-day Germany trip also visits Hamburg and Cologne. For fewer days, Berlin and Munich alone are a workable alternative. Search the return Munich to Berlin journey separately.
