Save the art visit for Sunday
The Pinakothek visitor page lists €1 Sunday entry to eligible permanent collections at the Alte Pinakothek, Pinakothek der Moderne, Museum Brandhorst and Sammlung Schack. That is a useful saving if one of those collections is already on your list. Special exhibitions can be priced separately.
The Neue Pinakothek is closed until a planned 2029 reopening. Selected works have moved to other venues, so decide which open collection you want before setting off. A Sunday saving is better spent on a relaxed visit than on an attempt to enter every museum before closing.
Bring the food, buy the drinks
The Viktualienmarkt beer garden allows guests to bring their own Brotzeit. Put together a small lunch from market purchases or food you already have, use the appropriate beer-garden area and buy your drinks there. This is a specific local custom, not permission to unpack a picnic at every restaurant table.
Leave the old-centre walk around that meal. If the weather turns, choose a simple indoor lunch and keep the longer visit for the art collection. You can enjoy Munich without making every meal a large beer-hall sitting.
Where to Stay
Choose the old centre for a short stay with evenings on foot, or a room near an U-Bahn or S-Bahn stop for a wider search. During Oktoberfest, compare the full stay and late return before accepting a distant room as a saving.
Getting Around
Group the art museums together and keep the old centre and Viktualienmarkt as another walk. Airport travel extends beyond an ordinary central outing, so choose the ticket for the full airport route rather than just the city stop.

S-Bahn S1 / S8 (Metro)
€15.10Adult single for zones M–5: €15.10 in the 2026 fare table. Compare the €17.50 Airport-City-Day-Ticket if also using local transport; it ends at 6 am the next day. S1 and S8 take about 40 minutes to Hauptbahnhof on a suitable service. Use Flughafen München for the terminals, and check disruption notices.

At the Viktualienmarkt beer garden, you may bring your own Brotzeit food. Buy the drinks there and use the area where brought food is allowed. Bread, cheese or other market purchases can make this a proper lunch without a restaurant order for every item.

Skip / Save Your Money
The Viktualienmarkt area and the old streets make an enjoyable walk without a guided tasting package. Buy a small amount of the food that catches your interest instead of paying to sample things you may not want.
