Buy beyond the local Geneva area
The Geneva Transport Card’s zone 10 does not cover the full journey to Lausanne. If you already hold a national pass, check its coverage; otherwise price the intercity journey with the correct discount category.
Allow for the hill on arrival
Lausanne station is between the lake and upper town. Choose the metro, bus or walk that reaches your room with luggage. A lakefront address can involve a substantial descent and a climb when leaving.
Tickets and local travel
Use the operator information and SBB journey planner to choose the actual departure. Read the fare conditions: an ordinary ticket and a train-specific Supersaver ticket have different flexibility. Only select a discount if you hold the required card.
The Geneva guide and Lausanne guide explain the local arrival and accommodation choices.
