Take the regional TCDD train from İzmir Basmane station (or direct from İzmir Airport station). Trains run 6 times daily, taking 1 hour 25 minutes for just 75 TRY (€2.20). It is comfortable, cheap, and drops you in central Selçuk.

The train reaches Selçuk, not the site gate
A regional train is the useful public link when its departure fits. Use TCDD Taşımacılık to confirm the İzmir or airport station, actual train and Selçuk arrival. Leave enough time for station access and luggage.
From Selçuk, arrange a current minibus, taxi or transfer to the correct Ephesus entrance. The archaeological site has more than one gate, and the exit plan matters if a driver is meeting you. Check official ticket and access information rather than an old price.
For a day trip, protect the return train and allow several hours inside. If Pamukkale follows, staying in Selçuk can avoid unnecessary travel back to İzmir. Do not treat a late arrival as enough time for a full site visit.
Heat and exposed walking can change the useful pace. Carry water, use shade where available and choose the entrance order deliberately instead of adding the terrace houses or museum without checking time.
