Cross the lagoon, then continue by bus
The Old Ferry carries passengers and bikes from central Klaipėda to Smiltynė. It does not sail all the way to Nida. From Smiltynė, the local bus continues down the spit; the published outbound journey takes about 60–65 minutes. Add the ferry, walking and waiting when planning the complete trip.
Keep the ticket components clear
The bus fare is €8 each way. A pedestrian ferry ticket costs €1.70 return. For one person, that combination totals €17.70 return before other spending. Keep the ferry ticket, and do not add a second return fare. Local bus tickets are sold onboard with cash or bank card, online and at Nida bus station.
A through-coach is a different option
Some intercity coaches run from Klaipėda to Nida using the vehicle ferry. Search your date and check the departure stop, complete price and inclusions. Do not add a separate passenger-ferry ticket automatically when the coach ticket already covers its crossing. Seasonal direct passenger boats, when offered, are also different services from the short Smiltynė ferry.
Leave a comfortable return
The return bus can take longer than the outward ride, so do not reverse the outbound timetable in your head. Read both directions before committing to a day trip. In Nida, pick one main walk and lunch rather than racing between several villages. Drivers also need to account for the vehicle ferry, Neringa entry charge and parking as separate costs.
Plan the arrival
Continue with the Nida guide when choosing a base and local visits. Add this journey separately to your daily spending plan. The distance above compares the city centres in a straight line; the route you travel can be longer.
