Allow for the current service pattern
A normal train journey is roughly 40 minutes, but CP engineering work can put part of the line on replacement buses. Evening and weekend journeys deserve a fresh check. Use the timetable for your actual date and allow more time when a bus is listed.

The CP fare table lists €5.10 for a Lisbon–Cascais return and €2.55 for a four-zone single. CP zapping is €2.05 per journey, with any required card purchase separate. Compare the €11.40 Carris/Metro/CP day ticket only if its other included journeys are useful to you.
Choose the coastal outing
Cascais station is close to the town and its central beaches. Walk through the centre towards the citadel, park or Boca do Inferno if that fits your day. Guincho is farther away and needs its own transport. Leave enough margin for the return before an evening appointment in Lisbon.
