Choose the departure you can reach
A suitable train takes roughly 1½–2 hours from Lisbon, depending on the station. Check CP for Oriente, Entrecampos or Sete Rios according to the service. These are separate boarding points, so follow the station on your ticket.
Compare the city coach
Use Rede Expressos for the actual departure and terminal, with a planning allowance of about 1½–2 hours on a suitable direct coach. Compare the full price and change conditions rather than assuming an old €5 promotion will be available.
Leave space in the sightseeing day
The rail station and coach terminal have different approaches to the historic centre. Drop your bag if staying overnight, then group the Roman Temple, cathedral area and São Francisco into a comfortable walk. For a day trip, choose the return before booking several interiors, especially in hot weather.
