Choosing your journey
Train and coach are both sensible choices for this short international move. Choose the departure and Zagreb arrival station that fit your room or onward journey.

Choose the useful arrival station
A direct train reaches Zagreb Glavni kolodvor, convenient for the Lower Town. Coaches arrive at the main bus station, which is useful for an onward coastal coach or the airport shuttle. Add the final city journey before comparing the total time.
Suitable direct services take around two and a half hours, though works, traffic and the exact departure can change that. Search the actual date in the Slovenian Railways international information and coach planner.
Find the right Ljubljana departure
Allow time around the station area and follow current signs during the works. A coach platform and a railway platform are different departures even when both are described as Ljubljana station. Read any replacement-bus instruction before leaving your room.
Keep your travel documents handy. Slovenia has lifted its temporary border checks with Croatia, but this does not remove the requirement to carry the documents your journey needs. Slovenian government notice.
Make the first afternoon easy
Check in, get lunch and begin with the central squares and parks. A shorter city walk is a better arrival plan than trying to continue straight to Plitvice. Zagreb guide.
