Connect through Ettelbruck

Start at Luxembourg Gare Centrale and take a suitable train to Ettelbruck. From there, RGTR bus 181 runs towards Vianden. Search the whole connection in Mobiliteit with your actual date, since a shorter train ride is not much help if it leaves a long bus wait.

The current bus timetable takes roughly 25–30 minutes from Ettelbruck to the main Vianden town stops. The page's 90-minute figure is a rounded planning allowance for the train, change and bus, not a single published end-to-end service time. Add travel from your hotel and the uphill castle approach. Works can change the town stop, so check notices before leaving.

Keep tickets and castle entry separate

Domestic second-class trains and ordinary public buses are free. There is no cheaper advance fare to book for this connection. First class has its own ticket, and arriving from another country does not make that foreign section free.

Vianden Castle adult admission is €13 including the municipal tax. Check opening and last-entry times before choosing a departure. The climb and rooms involve slopes and steps; if access is a concern, ask the castle about the route through the areas you want to see.

Plan the ride back before setting out

For a day trip, save a Vianden–Ettelbruck bus and the onward train to Luxembourg, plus a later alternative. Return to the same room rather than adding an unnecessary hotel move. Leave time for lunch in town after the castle. If an evening flight or international train would make the return tight, put Vianden on another day.
