Start above the valley

Begin around Place Guillaume II and the streets beside the Grand Ducal Palace. Continue towards the Bock and Chemin de la Corniche for views over the lower town. This is a useful first walk after arrival because you can shorten it at any point without losing an advance booking.

Put the Bock Casemates into a separate part of the day if you want to go inside. The ordinary adult ticket is €11; the guided tour costs more and has its own schedule. The entrance is on Montée de Clausen, so check the meeting point on your ticket rather than heading to the Pétrusse site at Place de la Constitution. Steps and narrow passages make the interior a different proposition from an open-air viewpoint.

Go down without planning two climbs

The Grund is worth seeing from street level as well as from above. Have a walk beside the Alzette, then choose your way back before you become tired. The Grund lift and the Pfaffenthal panoramic lift serve different places. The latter links the valley with the Pescatore park area and is free to use, with a maintenance calendar to check.

A level-looking line on a map can hide a steep path or stairs. With luggage, a pushchair or limited mobility, plan around the actual lift entrance and accessible approach. Leave the valley walk for another day if a lift closure would make the return uncomfortable.

Choose a room that fits your arrival

Ville Haute is handy for an evening in the old streets. Gare puts the railway station close by and has tram connections towards the centre. A room on the tram line can also suit a visit focused on museums or onward travel, but check the walk from the stop and the service at your arrival time.

Keep a day trip comfortable

Vianden needs a train and bus connection; Echternach has a direct bus route. Choose one for a day, then return to the same room. Free domestic travel removes the ticket cost, but connections, lunch and walking still take time.

The three-day plan keeps two nights in the capital. Its room and meal amounts are chosen allowances. Replace them with your own bookings, and use actual admission tickets in place of the activity allowance.
