Double or twin hotel room: what to check
Avoid bed surprises by confirming mattress size, separate beds, bedding and whether your chosen room arrangement is guaranteed.
A double room usually means accommodation for two people with a shared bed. A twin room usually has two separate beds. Those labels do not tell you the mattress width, how the beds are arranged or whether the hotel can guarantee your preference.
If the sleeping arrangement matters, ask before paying.
Check the physical setup
A listing may describe a double bed made from two mattresses placed together. Another may have one mattress with two separate duvets. Neither arrangement is necessarily a problem, but it should not come as a surprise.
Ask for dimensions in centimetres rather than relying on words such as queen or king. Bed-size names are not used consistently across countries and properties.
For a twin room, confirm whether both beds are permanent beds. A sofa bed or folding bed may be shown as the second sleeping place in a family room.

Distinguish a request from a booking condition
“Double or twin, subject to availability” does not guarantee either option. Adding “two beds please” to the comments may only record a preference.
A clear message is more useful:
We need two separate beds for two adults. Can you confirm that this room category guarantees that arrangement for our dates? Please also confirm the width of each bed.
If you want one continuous mattress, ask that directly. Keep the reply with the reservation.
Read small-room and pod descriptions carefully
Some accommodation formats offer fewer alternatives. CityHub’s FAQ, for example, says its Hubs do not have twin beds, although separate blankets can be requested. Two friends who need separate beds would have to compare a different arrangement.
Check the space around the bed as well. You may need access from both sides, room for luggage or a particular transfer arrangement for mobility reasons. A large mattress does not establish that the room has generous floor space.
For families, enter the ages and total number of guests so that occupancy rules and extra-bed charges appear in the quote.
