Where to stay in Paris without overspending
Find a useful Paris base around Canal Saint-Martin, Bastille, Montparnasse or Batignolles, with advice on transport and room details.
A Paris hotel does not need an Eiffel Tower view to be a good base. What helps more is a manageable walk to transport, somewhere nearby for breakfast and a room that suits the people sleeping in it.
Choose two or three areas, then compare actual properties. Arrondissement numbers alone are too broad to rank for value.

Test the route before choosing the room
Put the hotel address and two planned visits into the Île-de-France Mobilités planner. A direct journey can be more convenient than a shorter one with awkward changes.
For an airport departure, check the first service and your terminal. A central address does not guarantee a simple early-morning transfer. Station lifts and escalators are another reason to plan the precise route when travelling with mobility needs or heavy bags.
Compare what you will actually get
Paris room descriptions deserve a careful read. Look for the floor area, bed arrangement and bathroom layout. Ask whether the lift reaches the room’s floor and whether there are steps before the lift.
For summer, confirm that cooling is provided in the booked room category. A hotel listing “air conditioning” may not explain operating hours or individual control.
Compare the complete price for everyone staying, with tourist tax and breakfast treated consistently. A non-refundable offer should be compared with another non-refundable offer. Otherwise you are also comparing how much flexibility you are buying.
