Connecting France and Italy by Rail

There are two primary rail corridors between France and Italy:

  1. The Alpine High-Speed Corridor (Paris / Lyon to Milan): High-speed trains run through the Maurienne valley and Alps into Torino and Milano Centrale. Both SNCF (TGV INOUI) and Trenitalia (Frecciarossa) operate competing direct daily services starting from €39.
  2. The Mediterranean Coastal Corridor (Nice to Genoa): Take the local French TER train from Nice to the border station at Ventimiglia (50 mins, €8.40). Switch cross-platform to a direct Italian Trenitalia Regional or Intercity train to Genoa (2h00, €12.50).
