Hotel and hostel luggage storage: hours, fees and rules
Ask the exact property about hours, fees, bag size, access and liability before relying on luggage storage on arrival or departure day.
Many hotels and hostels can hold bags before check-in or after checkout, but it is a property service rather than a universal booking right. Ask about your dates, bag size and collection time before arranging a day around it.
Early luggage drop, early room access and late checkout are three different things. A property can offer one without the others.
Ask with exact times and bag sizes
A useful message is specific:
Can you store two suitcases from about 9am before check-in, and again until 6pm after checkout? What does it cost, where are they kept, and will I be able to collect them at those times?
Mention an oversized suitcase, bicycle, pushchair or sports equipment. Ask whether the service is only for the arrival and departure days, and whether an overnight hold is allowed if that matters.
Self check-in apartments deserve extra care. A door code and an unstaffed lobby do not establish that there is a secure room or someone available to release a bag.
Policies differ even between familiar operators

These examples are why a facilities icon is not enough. Read the page for the exact property and ask for confirmation if the timing or price affects another booking.
Check access and security
Find out whether the storage area is staffed, locked or shared, and whether you receive a claim tag, locker key or code. Check the largest locker dimensions if your suitcase must fit inside one.
Ask what happens during a reception break or after the front door locks. A storage promise is not useful if your train leaves after the final collection time.
Read the property's liability terms. Keep passports, medication, money, electronics and anything needed during the day with you. A locked room can reduce casual access, but it is not automatically insurance for every item inside the bag.
Build a workable backup
If the property cannot help, compare a station locker or staffed storage service along the route you will actually take. Include booking fees, locker size, opening hours and the detour in the decision. Our station locker and luggage-storage comparison covers those alternatives.
A cheap locker across town can cost more once two local journeys and the risk of a missed connection are included. Leave a collection buffer, check that every bag is yours and then travel to the correct platform, terminal or stop.
