Luggage storage in European cities
Choose between hotel storage, station lockers and luggage-storage services, with practical checks on opening hours, bag sizes and protection terms.
Choose luggage storage by the pickup journey, not just the lowest advertised price. A bag stored across town can turn a relaxed final afternoon into a rush for the train. Start with your departure station or airport connection and work backwards.
Check the hotel first
Ask whether your accommodation can keep bags before check-in or after checkout, whether there is a charge and how retrieval works. An apartment with remote entry may offer no storage at all. A staffed hotel may have a luggage room, but you should still confirm its hours and receipt process.
Keep passports, necessary medication, payment cards and items you cannot afford to lose with you. Do not leave a bag somewhere merely because another guest appears to have done so.
Station lockers and staffed storage
Look up the specific station's facilities. Locker size, accepted payment and maximum storage duration vary. A station having lockers does not guarantee an empty one when you arrive.
For example, Hannover Hauptbahnhof's official station page describes digital lockers on the forecourt and links to their booking system. That is useful location-specific information, not evidence that every German station has the same service or price.
Measure an unusually large suitcase and check whether the quoted rate is per locker, per bag, per hour or per storage period. If you need two lockers, compare that total with another option.
App bookings need location checks
Services such as Bounce may use partner shops, hotels or other businesses. Read the exact location's opening hours for the day of collection, including any break or holiday closure. “Near the station” can still mean a walk with luggage and a road crossing.
Read protection terms carefully. Bounce's own explanation says its Bag Protection is not insurance or a guarantee and is subject to its conditions. Do not treat a headline coverage amount as automatic reimbursement for everything in a suitcase.
Before paying, check the final price, cancellation rules, prohibited items and what happens if collection is late. Save the booking confirmation and follow the bag-identification process at drop-off.
Leave enough time to collect the bag and reach the platform or airport transport. If a cheaper location adds two extra local journeys, include those fares in the comparison.
