Allow about 1¾–2¼ hours by a suitable direct train. Book Córdoba city rather than Villanueva de Córdoba–Los Pedroches, and price any later onward departure separately. |
Choosing your journey
A suitable direct train makes Córdoba a practical overnight stop or day trip from Madrid. Allow roughly 1¾–2¼ hours on the train, plus the walk or local ride into the old centre.

Choose Córdoba city on the booking
Search the Madrid–Córdoba route and compare departures. Córdoba station serves the city; Villanueva de Córdoba–Los Pedroches is a different destination. Read the full station name rather than selecting the first result containing Córdoba.
Build the visit around the Mezquita
For a day trip, leave time between the station and the monument and book the appropriate admission. The free morning period has its own hours and conditions, so it may not fit a train from Madrid. An overnight stay gives you more choice and time to walk after dinner.
Price a stopover as two journeys
If continuing to Seville or Málaga, check the separate onward ticket before buying the first leg. A train that calls at Córdoba does not automatically permit you to get off for hours and board another departure on the same restricted ticket.
Plan the arrival
The Madrid guide and Córdoba guide explain the local journeys, places to stay and visits. Add the main travel ticket separately to your daily spending plan. The distance above is a straight-line comparison between the city centres; your train, road or flight route can be longer.
The overnight stop used by the seven-day plan
In the Madrid and Andalusia itinerary, this is day three: arrive in Córdoba, leave bags at the accommodation and stay overnight. Day four continues to Seville. This gives the monument visit room to move if the train arrives later than planned.
Use the Córdoba guide to choose the admission product, then compare your next departure in the Córdoba–Seville direction. Our Seville–Córdoba guide covers the same stations but describes the reverse journey. Keep the two fares separate from the itinerary's daily spending subtotal.
