Compare the named train
Rotterdam Centraal and Antwerpen-Centraal have a direct international rail connection. Eurocity Direct is a useful option, taking about 45 minutes on a suitable service. NS International shows the choices for your date. EuroCity and Eurostar are different services, so compare the train name as well as the price.
Choose Eurocity Direct for the roughly 45-minute journey described here, and compare the separate Eurostar options in the planner. Add time to reach Rotterdam Centraal and find your platform, particularly if arriving on another service.
Flexible and cheaper tickets differ
Eurocity Direct has Saver and Flex fares. Saver is tied to the selected train; Flex permits an eligible service on the chosen day. Seats are not reserved. Read the conditions for the exact ticket, including changes and refunds, before paying.
Eurostar has its own fares and a booked seat. If you choose it, follow the service and boarding instructions on your ticket. A domestic NS check-in is not a substitute for an international ticket to Antwerp. Use the international ticket's gate instructions to avoid starting an extra contactless journey by mistake.
Compare a current quote for both directions and include any connecting train. For a day trip, an inexpensive outbound fare is less useful if the return does not fit your plans.
Train or coach
A coach may cost less on some dates, but compare the full trip. Check FlixBus for the actual departure and arrival stops, luggage conditions and road journey. Stops can vary by service; do not assume every coach arrives outside Antwerpen-Centraal.
By train, you arrive in Antwerp's station district. Leave luggage before setting off for the old centre, and choose one main area for the first part of the day. Our Antwerp guide gives an overview, while Ghent versus Antwerp helps if you are deciding which city to add to a short trip. Check the Rotterdam guide for the Dutch end of the journey.
