Gozo Channel lists the standard visitor passenger fare as €4.65 for one round trip. The €4.05 night fare applies from November to March to departures from Mġarr after 20:00 and before the first morning sailing. This route also needs a Valletta to Ċirkewwa bus and a Mġarr to Victoria bus. Check the dated bus and ferry schedules and price each leg; the sea fare is not the complete journey cost. |
Choosing your journey
Choose between the passenger-only Gozo Highspeed from Valletta and the conventional Gozo Channel crossing from Ċirkewwa according to your starting point, luggage and return plan. Highspeed's €7.50 adult fare is one way to Mġarr and its sea leg is about 45 minutes; Gozo Channel's ordinary visitor fare is €4.65 for a round-trip ticket and its crossing is about 25 minutes. Both products end at Mġarr, so Victoria requires a separate Gozo bus or taxi leg.

Decide which Malta-side terminal suits you
Gozo Highspeed leaves from Valletta's Lascaris Wharf and reaches Mġarr. Its current official fare page lists €7.50 for a standard adult one-way Valletta crossing, while the FAQ gives an approximate sea leg of 45 minutes. It is a passenger-only service, so it suits a visitor already near Valletta who does not need to take a car. Check the operator schedule and its weather notice before fixing a return connection.
Gozo Channel leaves from Ċirkewwa and carries foot passengers and vehicles. Its fare page labels €4.65 as the standard passenger fare for a visitor. The €4.05 amount on the same page is a restricted November-to-March night fare for passengers leaving Mġarr after 20:00, not the ordinary daytime price. The ticket terms say the total price represents one round trip, and the current schedule gives an approximate crossing of 25 minutes. Embarkation is first come, first served, even when a ticket was bought online.
Continue from Mġarr to Victoria
Both services arrive at Mġarr, not Victoria. The complete Valletta-to-Victoria journey includes reaching Lascaris or Ċirkewwa, waiting and boarding, the crossing, then a Gozo bus or taxi from Mġarr. Gozo Highspeed's FAQ mentions shuttle-bus connections. The current MPT route 301 page shows the Vapur to Victoria service and the route serving Mġarr, while the MPT journey planner returns the dated stop, interchange and time. Do not use the sea-leg minutes as the complete city journey.
Compare the other fast-ferry departures
Gozo Highspeed also lists Sliema to Gozo via Bugibba at €8.50 one way and Bugibba to Gozo at €6.50 one way, with approximate sea legs of 75 and 30 minutes. Transport Malta says the Sliema, Bugibba and Mġarr service began in May 2026. These are separate departure points and fare products. Do not reuse the Valletta price or assume a Sliema ticket includes the onward Victoria transfer. The Gozo / Victoria guide helps with the final bus and Cittadella day.
Leave a return margin
Gozo Channel tickets are round trips, but they do not provide priority boarding. Highspeed prices listed here are one way, so price both legs if you use that service. Leave time to reach Mġarr before the return sailing, and check sea conditions, route changes and the last practical bus from Victoria. The Gozo ferry article has the fare distinctions in one place. A later ferry is not a useful backup if your final bus or flight depends on the first timetable you saw.
Budget for the ferry and onward bus
For an adult paying ordinary single fares, the Valletta ferry and bus 301 total €9.50 in winter or €10 in summer, one way. The two rides take about an hour altogether. That is a minimum riding time, not the whole connection: allow around 1½–2 hours as a planning buffer for boarding, interchange and the final walk, and more if the departure times do not line up. Airport travel is additional. Bus 301’s timetable shows approximately 15-minute rides between Mġarr and Victoria.
