Choosing Your Route to Gozo

There are two very different ferry services connecting the main island of Malta to its sister island of Gozo.

1. Gozo Fast Ferry (Best for Foot Passengers & Day Trips)

  • Departure: Valletta Lascaris Wharf (located at the bottom of the Upper Barrakka lift in Grand Harbour).
  • Arrival: Mġarr Port, Gozo.
  • Duration: 45 minutes direct.
  • Fare: €7.50 one-way (€12.00 return, €4.50 with personalized Tallinja card).
  • Connecting Bus: Local bus 301 is synchronized with arriving catamarans in Mġarr to take passengers directly to Victoria (Rabat) in 10 minutes.
  • Verdict: The fastest and most pleasant way to visit Gozo if you do not have a car.

2. Gozo Channel Ferry (from Ċirkewwa - Best for Cars & Night Travel)

  • Departure: Ċirkewwa Harbour at the northern tip of Malta.
  • Arrival: Mġarr Port, Gozo.
  • Duration: 25 minutes crossing (but requires a 75-minute bus ride from Valletta to reach Ċirkewwa).
  • Fare: Free outbound; you only pay on the return trip from Gozo (€4.65 for foot passengers, €15.70 for standard car and driver).
  • Schedule: Operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
