Rome daily costs for a realistic city break
Build a Rome budget with current public transport prices, clear accommodation assumptions and separate costs for major attractions.
Rome’s streets, squares and church visits can fill a large part of a day, but the Colosseum and Vatican Museums need their own ticket budget. Decide which paid visits matter before settling on a daily spending target.
Check the full accommodation bill too, including the applicable local tax.
A worked daily allowance
This example is for one of two adults sharing a room costing €120 in total, with mandatory charges included.

The ATAC ticket page lists the 100-minute BIT at €1.50 and the 24-hour ticket at €8.50. Check the journey and validation rules; a timed single is not an unlimited all-day pass.
The €25 sightseeing line is a placeholder, not a promise that every attraction combination fits. Replace it with the exact ticket products and booking fees you choose. Airport transfers are separate.
Treat the Vatican visits separately
St Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums are different visits. Ordinary entry to the basilica is free, while the museums and optional extras have their own arrangements.

Leave room in the day for security and walking between entrances.
Read the restaurant bill before ordering
Check the menu for bread, service and other disclosed charges. Do not assume every restaurant has the same arrangement or that a low pasta price is the final meal cost.

Public drinking fountains can be useful, but use those marked for drinking and follow any local notices.
For accommodation, compare the routes from Monti, Trastevere and Termini in our Rome neighbourhood guide. If you are travelling alone, use the full room price in the table rather than the shared figure. That change matters much more than a small saving on a bus ticket.
Choose the actual paid visit
The €25 visit line is an allowance, not an all-inclusive Rome ticket. Pantheon entry is €7; Trevi’s lower basin costs €2, while the surrounding square view is separate. Check the Pantheon ticket and the Trevi visitor arrangements before deciding which to add.
