Make the arrival easy

The national bus station is a useful landmark when choosing a hotel. It is the arrival point for the main international coaches and a starting point for several national lines. Save the hotel address before crossing into Andorra, where your usual roaming allowance may not apply.

For Barcelona, distinguish Direct Bus departures at Sants from Andbus departures at Diagonal. The operators also serve the airport, but terminal stops and timings differ. Follow the stop printed on your ticket. The arrival guide covers that choice.

A first afternoon on foot

Start with the old centre around Plaça del Poble and Casa de la Vall, then work down towards the river and the shopping streets. The Dalí clock sculpture, Noblesse du Temps, stands at Plaça de la Rotonda. It is an outdoor stop you can fit around a meal, rather than a separately ticketed attraction.

Casa de la Vall gives the old streets some context: it housed the parliament before the neighbouring modern building opened. The museum information lists a €5 standard visit. Confirm the opening day and available visit before making it the centre of your afternoon; parliamentary events can change access. If it does not fit, keep the old-town walk and choose another indoor stop later.

The valley floor and pedestrian shopping areas are easier walking than the slopes above them. For luggage or limited mobility, ask about the hotel entrance and lift access, not just the distance shown on a map.

Give Caldea its own time

Caldea is in neighbouring Escaldes-Engordany. Book the access level for your group and leave time to arrive and change. The Caldea ticket guide explains Classic, Plus, Premium and the separate children's arrangements. A spa session works better on a settled day than immediately after an international coach.

For dinner, compare a restaurant's actual menu with what you want to eat. A traditional borda can be a meal to spend more on; it does not establish a cheap set-menu price. Check the location before reserving, especially for places outside the central streets.

One day out of the capital

Choose Ordino for its village and house museum. The Ordino bus guide explains the different L6 and L7 stops. The bus does not take you straight to every mountain trailhead in the parish.

For the eastern valley, take a national bus to Canillo or Soldeu. A Tibetan Bridge visit starts with a separate shuttle from Canillo. Resort lifts have their own seasons, so do not buy a hotel stay on the assumption that a gondola runs all year.

On departure day, have your bags ready before lunch and reach the booked coach stop with a margin. The four-day itinerary keeps three hotel nights separate from the final travel day.
